How does your wedding photography website score?

A gallery site can look perfect and still be unreadable to a search engine. Score yours on nine on-page checks in about ten seconds.

We fetch one page and run nine checks. We keep the score and the checks it failed, never the page itself. Five checks an hour per connection.

Weak spots

Where wedding photographers lose points

The checks failed most often across the 31 websites we measured.

  1. 1

    Meta description

77% of the wedding photographers we measured fail this

A description of 120 to 155 characters is the two lines under your title in search results. Write it for the couple, not the engine.

  2. 2

    Title tag

55% of the wedding photographers we measured fail this

Put the work and the place in the title. "Wedding Photographer" plus your city is searched for. "Home" is not.

  3. 3

    Structured data

48% of the wedding photographers we measured fail this

A schema.org JSON-LD block tells a search engine what kind of business you are and where you work, in a form it reads directly instead of guessing.

The nine checks

The same nine checks as the main scorer, with what each one means for wedding photographers.

  1. Title tag15 pts

Present and 30 to 60 characters.

Put the work and the place in the title. "Wedding Photographer" plus your city is searched for. "Home" is not.

  2. Meta description15 pts

Present and 120 to 155 characters.

  3. Mobile viewport15 pts

A viewport meta tag so phones render the page correctly.

  4. H1 heading10 pts

    Exactly one, with real text.

  5. HTTPS10 pts

The page loads over a secure connection.

  6. Image alt text10 pts

At least 80% of images describe themselves.

Your portfolio is your product, and alt text is how a search engine reads it. Sixty unlabeled images are sixty pieces of work it cannot see.

  7. Structured data10 pts

    Any schema.org JSON-LD block.

  8. Page weight10 pts

The page is under 3 MB.

Full resolution galleries are the usual culprit. This check fails over 3 MB, and a couple on venue wifi feels every megabyte of it.

  9. Contact affordance5 pts

A phone link, an email link, or a form.

  • 400+ Collective vendors

That is the audience your website is trying to reach. Your score says whether it can.

Website score FAQ

What wedding photographers ask before they run the check.

No. The nine checks are about what ends up in the page, not which tool made it. A builder cannot write your alt text or compress your gallery for you, though, and those are two of the nine checks.
